INTRODUCTION
A false statement that is spread to a third party and damages the reputation party and damages the reputation of a person or an organization is referred to as defamation . Slander and libel are the two types . Libel means defamation that is written or published , slander refers to defamation that is spoken .

1.the statements falsity
2.its dissemination to a third party
3.the defendants fault or negligence in making the statement .
Defamation
Under section 499 of the ipc defamation is addressed . it means defaming that person when an inaccurate statement is made or published about that person whether through words ,oral communication or other means. Three factors must be present for defamation under 499 of IPC. Claim must be made either verbally , in writing , through signs or visually. It must be done with the intention of harming the person against whom it is made.
Intention to make Injury
It must be known or reasonably believed that the the act will result in damage of reputation . it implies that the person should have the intention to damage the reputation of person.
Publication
A person must publish his words in order for a defamation lawsuit to be successful . It indicates that when defamatory words reach a third party ,the reputation of the person is harmed .
